The National Bureau of Statistics in Canada revealed that the population of that country increased by one million in one year, from 38,516,138 to 39,566,248.

It made it the highest annual population growth rate since at least 2.7%, the last time that happened in 1957.

It was pointed out that the increase is based on the fact that the government has set up a program to bring in immigrants from other countries in order to ease the work and the shortage of workers.

However, the increase in the number of immigrants who will settle in this country or who will stay temporarily may create some challenges in some areas including housing, lack of infrastructure, transportation, and service delivery.

Statistics show that the population growth is mainly made up of 96% of immigrants.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, has played an important role in bringing in immigrants to the country, so much so that last year his government announced plans to increase immigration by at least 500,000 annually until 2025.

Canada is also willing to accept people affected by wars such as Ukraine, and Afghanistan, and those affected by the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Statistics show that in 2022 Canada will receive 437,000 immigrants while the non-residents will enter more than 607,000.

Statistics also show that Canada is going to be the first country to increase its population among the countries that are members of the Economic Community based on cooperation and development and the first among the major countries of the world that are part of the G7.

While the population of this country continues to grow at a rate of 2.7%, at least the number of inhabitants will double in just 26 years.

The agency said that in 2022, Canada welcomed 437,000 immigrants, while the number of temporary residents in the country increased by 607,782, accounting for a “record-breaking year for the processing of immigration applications.”

It further claimed that with this growing population, Canada might rank first among the 38 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development for 2022 population growth, while it already is the fastest-growing G7 country.
