The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, announced on Tuesday that his country has withdrawn from the nuclear arms control agreement between this country and the United States of America. Russia has withdrawn from the nuclear arms treaty with the United States.

He said this in a speech before members of the Parliament and military leaders on Tuesday, February 21, three days before the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine. Russia has withdrawn from the nuclear arms treaty with the United States.

“I have to announce today that Russia is no longer participating in the Arms Reduction Treaty,” he said.

The United States of America had recently raised its voice saying that Russia is not complying with the terms of the agreement established to reduce the weapons used in times of war.

This agreement began to be implemented between the United States and Russia in 2011. It was signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Hillary Clinton of the United States and Sergei Lavrov of Russia at a security conference held in Munich in Germany.

This includes preventing the use of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and nuclear weapons in these missiles. The agreement also included provisions on arms control.

In the beginning, Clinton said that its signing will reduce the effects of weapons of war on both the people of Russia and the United States of America and the people of the world in general.

Lavrov said that they expect a contribution to the world’s security.

Earlier this month, NATO called on the Russian government to honor its commitments.

Russia has refused to convene a conference of the commission established by the agreement and has blocked the United States from carrying out inspections on its territory from August 2022 as it had jurisdiction in relation to the provisions of the agreement.

In this public speech of Putin, he also said that the sanctions imposed on Russia by European countries and the United States have created business opportunities for domestic companies.
